On Wednesday 27th December 2017 persons would see the second Positive Vibes Arts Festival on Bequia, with an explosion of talent at the Lower Bay Tennis Court from 4 pm until midnight.

Filling the void between Christmas and New Year, Positive Vibes brings together island legends and first-time performers under the same stars, showcasing all that is great about Bequia and its emerging arts scene.

You’ll see the best of the island’s music, dance, modeling and drama alongside a mouth-watering food fair you won’t be able to resist! Restaurants and local caterers are cooking up tasty, affordable treats for everyone to enjoy.

You’ll see performers of all ages showing off their flair. Lamonte Gregg is so talented on the drums you will not believe his age, the power of singers Gabriella Gurley and Eugena Simmons will see the hairs on your neck stand up and the natural beat of the new dance group ‘Little Happy Feet’ will have you wanting to get up and join them.

Fashion Show

The island’s own models are also putting on a one-hour fashion show, starting at 5.30pm, displaying locally-made designs from KBK, iKnits, Moziz_made, Natural Beads and Sunny Designs to name but a few!

Intense weekly rehearsals precede this annual event. Young people get the amazing opportunity to be mentored by the likes of Judy Boucher, Kevin Greaves and Danielle Collinson who dedicate dozens of hours to boost confidence, train their bodies and voices, show them the ropes and ultimately empower them to reach their full potential.

Colin Peters, one of the festival organizers and head mentors said,

‘Many events on Bequia no longer cater for the island’s musicians and they are not really accessible to us. We needed an alternative, something run by the people, for the people.

We want to be able to mentor those that need it, pass on some of our experiences… Positive Vibes is just that – sending THE RIGHT vibes to our youth and giving them a voice…’

Legends and More …

There are great headliners too. Vincy reggae star YAPHATTO and eclectic performance artist 3NIY3 join the festival from mainland St Vincent and the island’s very own reggae legend Colin ‘Minkah’ Peters is singing original songs from his new album ‘When Love is King’.

Smooth-sounding Prime, veteran Elvis Roots Gordon, and island stalwarts Socony and J Gool are all hitting the stage as well.

What’s more, all funds raised go towards ongoing community arts initiatives right here in Bequia. This includes workshops, music production, film editing, rehearsal space, art studios, and the facility to sell and promote local creations all at The Hub, the new Creative Arts Centre in the heart of Port Elizabeth (stay tuned for more details!).

SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Come and be part of the best vibes around. This is THE event of the festive season, the hottest gig in town, the tastiest food fair around – a day not to be missed.

Tickets are $30 EC at the door and it’s free admission for two children under 12 with an accompanying adult.
