How to know if you have a great Girlfriend ?

10. She’s Independent

No one gets into a relationship to be a babysitter. If she’s had a rough day at work, it’s great to be her shoulder to cry on. But if she can’t seem to function without you, you’ll eventually suffocate, and if you’re smart you’ll run for the nearest exit.

9. She’s Intelligent

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but the bimbo routine gets real old, real fast. A woman who can meet you at an intellectual level is a total turn-on.

An intelligent woman will constantly surprise you and keep you on your toes. She won’t let you get bored or complacent. Besides, it’s nice to have something to talk about between all that headboard-rattling sex.

8. She’s Sexual

While we’re on the topic, a great girlfriend has to be sexually compatible with you. For instance, if you’re into S&M and she’s more the “fluffy lingerie” type, that’s a problem. The two of you have to be on the same page — or, at least, if it’s what you really crave, she has to be willing to wear leather and use a whip from time to time.

7. You’re Attracted to Her

I know, this one is kind of obvious, but important nonetheless. A great girlfriend will not only want to look good for you, but also for herself.

Your mutual attraction should make you both want to stay looking your best.

6. She Respects You

This is a biggie. Your girlfriend must respect you — otherwise you have to wonder why she bothers to be with you. This means that she takes the time to listen to you, even if you’re in a heated argument.

5. She Lets You Be a Man

Do not — I repeat — do not get involved with a woman who tries to get you to eat cottage cheese and fruit for breakfast and insists that you give up poker night with the guys. You will end up resenting her more than you can imagine. A good girlfriend lets you be a guy in all your glory, poker night and all. If she’s a great girlfriend, she’ll even bring you and your buddies a couple of beers and make you some of her famous sandwiches.

4. She Doesn’t Nag Without a Good Reason

We’ve never met a man who was convinced to change his behavior because of his girlfriend’s nagging. A great girlfriend knows this and chooses her battles wisely. She knows when to get upset and when to let it slide.

3. She Gets Along With Your Friends and Family

A great girlfriend will make an effort to get to know your people. She’ll help your parents out at Thanksgiving, try to understand your brother’s twisted sense of humor, and want to get to know your friends.

2. She Loves You

If you have found a woman who loves you for who you really are and not who you pretend or try to be sometimes, you should definitely hang on to her. Of course, everyone has their slightly annoying habits that their mate has to contend with, but if she really loves you, she’ll be able to cope with these.

1. She Makes You Want to Be a Better Man

Stop making that face . . . Any man who has a great girlfriend or wife will tell you that she makes him want to be a better man. She doesn’t have to say or do anything; it just is that way. If you suddenly feel bad about how you treated your sister when you were younger or find yourself trying to get your finances in order to prepare for the future, you might want to think about your motivation for doing so. It could be love.

Chik-un-gun-ya – What you need to Know.

The Chikungunya virus is transmitted to people by mosquitoes. Has nothing to do with chickens.

How do you get it ?

Through mosquito bites

  • Chikungunya virus is transmitted to people through mosquito bites. Mosquitoes become infected when they feed on a person already infected with the virus. Infected mosquitoes can then spread the virus to other people through bites.
  • Chikungunya virus is most often spread to people by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictusmosquitoes. These are the same mosquitoes that transmit dengue virus. They bite mostly during the daytime.

What are the Symptoms ?

  • Most people infected with chikungunya virus will develop some symptoms.
  • Symptoms usually begin 3–7 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito.
  • The most common symptoms are fever and joint pain.
  • Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash.
  • Chikungunya disease does not often result in death, but the symptoms can be severe and disabling.
  • Most patients feel better within a week. In some people, the joint pain may persist for months.
  • People at risk for more severe disease include newborns infected around the time of birth, older adults (≥65 years), and people with medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease.
  • Once a person has been infected, he or she is likely to be protected from future infections.

Diagnosis

  • The symptoms of chikungunya are similar to those of dengue, another disease spread by mosquitoes.
  • See your doctor if you develop the symptoms described above.
  • If you have recently traveled, tell your doctor.
  • Your doctor may order blood tests to look for chikungunya or other similar diseases.

What treatment is there ?

  • There is no medicine to treat chikungunya virus infection or disease.
  • Decrease the symptoms:
    • Get plenty of rest
    • Drink fluids to prevent dehydration
    • Take medicines, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, acetaminophen, or paracetamol, to relieve fever and pain.

How can i prevent it ?

Protect Yourself from Mosquito Bites

  • Use air conditioning or window/door screens to keep mosquitoes outside.  If you are not able to protect yourself from mosquitoes inside your home or hotel, sleep under a mosquito bed net.
  • Help reduce the number of mosquitoes outside your home or hotel room by emptying standing water from containers such as flowerpots or buckets.
  • When weather permits, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
  • Use insect repellents
    • Repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, and oil of lemon eucalyptus and para-menthane-diol products provide long lasting protection.
    • If you use both sunscreen and insect repellent, apply the sunscreen first and then the repellent.
    • Do not spray repellent on the skin under your clothing.
    • Treat clothing with permethrin or purchase permethrin-treated clothing.
    • Always follow the label instructions when using insect repellent or sunscreen.
    • More information about insect repellents can be found on the CDC West Nile virus website, “Insect Repellent Use & Safety”.

Shed/Gazebo was a safety risk – “I love beach limes, i am a party man” – Bertrand Sailly

Union Island – In an interview with Mr Bertrand Sailly, the operator of the Sparrow’s Beach Club in Union Island, he stated that the only reason for dismantling the public shed/gazebo was for the safety of the public and also to prevent him for facing liability for injuries.

He went on to give a background on the shed; “the gazebo is part of the property that is leased by me, it was infested by termites and has been in a deplorable state, falling apart. I wanted to do some repair works on it at the same time i was building the other structures but my budget did not allow me to. I insured the entire property but the insurance company did not insure the gazebo because of the state it was in.”

Beach Lime

He further stated, “there was a beach lime/party close to the area on carnival Monday and patrons used the gazebo as usual. On Tuesday morning one of my workers pointed out to me that the shed was falling apart, when i went to see it i realised that it was a safety risk to the public so i took pictures of it and i took it apart. It is also not insured so i did not want  any liability should someone get hurt. ”

Bertrand went on to say that ” it may look as if it was because of the beach lime i took it down but that’s not the case, I love beach parties, I like the music, and i’m a party man, i go to alot of parties on the island. I do not have a problem with residents having parties because i get some of the business too.”

Reconstruction of the Shed/Gazebo

When asked about the reconstruction of the Gazebo Bertrand said, ” i went around to various hardware outlets seeking assistance for materials but haven’t received any help yet, i have some carpenters who are willing to do the work for free. The problem is, we are in the slow season now and i have 10 persons on staff to pay. This weekend i will have someone come in to do an estimate and see how it goes from there. But the shed/gazebo, when it is rebuilt will always be for the public, i have no problem with that.”

The Making of Sparrow’s Beach Club

Bertrand took the time to explain how the beach club came about, ” one day i was at a beach lime just like the ones that they have there and sitting at that same shed i looked at how the place was closed and i thought that this can be a nice place for persons to enjoy the beach, so the next day i made contact with Kim who is now deceased to see how we can work something out, i then leased the place and did alot of work on the property to bring it to how it is now.”

Cows a Major Problem

Bertrand Stated that cows are the biggest problem ” my only problem is the cows, i planted alot of  coconut palms and other flowering plants to make the place look beautiful and the cows would come and eat all, i placed some ropes to keep off the cows and i also placed a sign so that residents would know that the ropes are for the cows. The cows are roaming free and its a major problem for me right now.”

Mustique hosts major Regional Marine Workshop

Clifton, Union Island, June 17, 2014 – Staff from six marine protected areas in Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines gathered together in the Grenadine Island of Mustique for their annual meeting about actions to strengthen reef management in the Grenadines.

Organised by Sustainable Grenadines Inc., this is the fourth consecutive year that the network has held such a meeting. Members of the network are Tobago Cays Marine Park, St. Vincent’s South Coast Marine Conservation Area, Mustique Marine Conservation Area, Sandy Island/Oyster Bed Marine Protected Area, Moliniere-Beausejour Marine Protected Area and Woburn/Clarke’s Court Marine Protected Area. Representatives from government departments in both countries, the University of the West Indies and St George’s University and The Nature Conservancy were among the other participants.

“By acting as a network, the members seek to achieve their objectives of conservation and the sustainable use of marine resources more effectively as a group than any one individual marine park could otherwise achieve on their own,” explained Mr. Martin Barriteau, Executive Director of Sustainable Grenadines, Inc.

Since 2011 the six MPAs have shared information and collaborated to promote the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources that are so important to local communities and to local livelihoods. Now the network has agreed to jointly monitor the health of coastal and marine resources in the Grenadines.

“This means that each marine protected area agreed to setup and collect data on permanent sites which they will monitor in the long term.  With this information, the network will be able to produce annual reports on the status of marine and coastal resources across the Grenadines, which will help to highlight the most important needs and concerns, and show progress made,” commented Mr. Barriteau.

“It’s an achievement and a milestone in our collaboration together.”

The meeting was hosted by the Mustique Company Ltd.  and sponsored by the US National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. In addition to meeting sessions, the participants gathered with local fishers to discuss sustainable fisheries practices. The participants also gave short talks for local school children about the marine environment.

Crab Hunting in Union Island

Crab Hunting or “Crabbing” is another popular tradition in Union Island.

The old folks says that the best time to hunt for crabs is just after the rain falls.

In the darkness of the night persons use a flambo or torch light along with their bag and a long stick. When a crab is in sight you have to quickly but firmly press on its back then grab it and place it into your bag.

These crabs can make a delicious dish of crab and callalu or curry crabs.

In Union Island you can find some of the best crab hunters among the older folks, they know where to find the “big gundie” crabs.

Pictured here is Uncle Larro, one of the Best !

Now share your experience of crab hunting and who do you think is the best of the best at crab hunting? also don’t forget to like and share this post, keep the information moving along.
